Alan Horsfield is a qualified teacher and successful, published freelance writer of children's books for readers from six to young adult. His early writing was for children's magazines, newspapers and journals. Later, he began writing textbooks and factual books. His first children's fiction was published in 1996. His books have been published in a number of English speaking countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada and USA . Alan and his wife, Elaine, enjoy travelling and many of Alan's stories reflect the places he has visited.
As an educator, Alan has taught in state and private schools across NSW and in International Schools in PNG. His teaching ranges from Infants through Primary to High School. He has been involved in mentoring programs and tutoring. His particular interests are in creative writing, developing thinking skills and challenging gifted children.
Alan is a past president of the NSW Children's Book Council. He was also the CBC Development Officer promoting children's literature across NSW. He had been a judge for the NSW Premier's Book Awards.
Alan worked at the UNSW as an English Research Officer then as a Mathematics Research Officer. Living in Fiji for some years, Alan has now returned to Australia busily working in "peaceful retirement" on the north coast of NSW.
He continues his involvement with student assessment with a private academic assessment firm based in North Sydney . He is director of a small company, EJH Talent Promotion, In 2004 he became ‘Writer in Residence' for Domremy College in Five Dock, Sydney.
Alan has conducted writing working shops in schools in Australia and New Zealand for primary and secondary students. His main focus is on promoting creative writing. |
