The Frightened Scarecrow

When Jake's father discovers that birds are eating the corn crop, he lets Jake make a scarecrow.

But Jake's scarecrow has problems of his own: he is not bold enough to frighten off the big birds, and small birds and mice make their homes in his clothes. The scarecrow doesn't like the wind and rain and noises he hears at night.

Jake has to find a way to make his scarecrow contented; after all, scarecrows cannot live in houses.
